Nepal's constitution already ready in India: Gajurel

Kathmandu

Maoist Secretary CP Gajurel on Thursday claimed that the new constitution of Nepal has already been prepared by India. He added that political parties have been trying to create the environment to promulgate the constitution drafted by India.
Talking to media persons on Thursday in the Capital, leader Gajurel claimed that the new constitution has been made by replacing the provision of 'constitutional monarchy' with ‘republic’ in the 1990 Constitution. He said that such constitution would not be acceptable to them and threatened to lunch strong movement against it. “That is why we have launched the movement,” said Gajurel, “We are ready to lunch any type of campaign, if people's constitution is not promulgated.”
Warning that the national unity would be in jeopardy if only the Madhesh advocated for federalism, the Maoist leader made it clear that the constitution without federalism could not be imagined. Gajurel, a senior leader of Maoist hard-line faction, reiterated that they (Maoist hardliners) have disagreement with the seven-point agreement between the major political parties and the latest agreement on integration of the Maoists combatants.
At the programme, the NC central member Minendra Rijal said that NC is also not in favour of the constitution without federalism. He also remarked that the capacity to speak for federalism is not confined to Madhesh-based parties.
Likweise, CPN-UML leader Pradeep Gyawali said that the new constitution could only promulgated if the peace process was concluded within April 12. He ruled out the possibility of promulgating the new constitution without peace.
Accusing the NC and UML of taking the constitution writing process a hostage, Vice-President of Sadhbhawana Party Laxmanlal Karna threatened to burn the constitution if it was brought out without federalism.
Jitendra Sonar, Joint-General Secretary of Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party, challenged to bring out new constitution sans federalism.
