The ‘Lumbini-Sagarmatha Peace Mission 2012’ has decided not to accept the aid provided by the government after comming under intense criticism from several quarters for the same.
The mission is slated to hold a press conference at the UCPN (Maoist) headquarters this afternoon to announce the rejection. The government was criticised for providing aid for the Everest mission, which also includes Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s son Prakash. The protestors claimed that the mission was given the aid, as Dahal’s son is a part of it.
The cabinet meeting on Friday had decided to provide Rs 20 million to the 11-man team. The decision was criticised citing nepotism.
Mission member Shiva Dangi said that they are rejecting the offer claiming they have been wrongly accused. “We are rejecting the aid to be provided to us. We are not going abroad to have fun with the money,” said Dangi.
However, Dangi said that the mission would not stop. The members are having a mountain trip this spring for peace and constitution in the country.
