Maoists to stick to its guns

The UCPN (Maoist) has decided to remain firm on its stance on some of the key contentious issues to be adopted in the new constitution.
Maoist party decided to remain firm on the form of governance and state restructuring in the new constitution. Political parties have agreed on the other issues of electoral system, citizenship and judiciary.
The meeting between Maoist Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, also the Vice Chairman of the party, on Monday morning agreed to remain firm on their stance on forms of governance and state restructuring. PM Bhattarai had discussed with the Coordinator of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha Bijay Kumar Gachhadar today to garner support for the same.
PM”s political advisor Devendra Poudel said that the Maoist would not budge away from its stance on the issues. “Maoist will make no compromise in these issues,” he said.
Maoist has been pushing for presidential system of governance contrasting to that of Nepali Congress’s parliamentary system and the UML’s stance on mix system.
Similarly, Maoist has proposed federating the country into nine states on the basis of identity and capability. However, NC and UML are in favour of 6-8 federal units.
